Trying to play back PCAN trace files precisely without PCAN software

Post by WilkinsMicawber » 2018 Sep 16 14:09

I have access to PCAN trace files, an example of which is given below. I am trying to reason out whether it's going to be possible to take the data out of these files and play them back on an automobile CAN-BUS in a way that will have all components responding to the messages as they would were PCAN to play the files back. I'm thinking that, aside from getting the correct baud rate, the messages don't have to initiate at precisely the same times as they did in the PCAN trace files relative to one another, unless components are expecting information by a certain frame. Do nodes sometimes look for information on a certain frame, or is there some freedom in exactly when messages are send and received? I'm thinking that as long as the messages play back in the right order, the components should respond in the same way.
