[RESOLVED] VES emulation?

Post by colletjr » 2007 Jan 04 00:34

I don't have VES in my car, but I'm interested in emulating it.

Does anyone (with a way to capture CAN-B packets) have it in theirs?

I've not done any captures on a VES equipped vehicle... but I do have one at my disposal now... I'll try to get a capture on it in the next few days...

I'll post back when it's available online..

Thanks,
LK

Great! I don't know how much time you'll have to spend on it, but I'm particularly interested in finding the packets which indicate the VES is present, and then the communication to/from the VES when controlling it from the radio, and plugging something into the AUX jack, etc.

Thanks (in advance) for anything you're able to come up with.

LK...

Did you ever get a log of the messages put out by the VES system? Would they be in the can logger database?

What about messages put out by the aftermarket "replace a head unit" boxes? With and without the thing installed?

Thanks

Unfortunately no... I didn't get to do the VES capture. I actually sold the vehicle shortly after that. I've actually moved to Lexington, KY recently. Due to this, I won't be setup to do another capture for a bit.

Wish I could help more and sooner.

Thats cool....

Do you know of anybody that is willing to build one of the diy can interfaces that are posted on the site? I want to try out some things, but don't know where to start when building one of those boards.

hey... i used to live off N Broadway by the BW3's out there.... I was working for Lexmark then... Now I'm in St. Louis...

Small world... I'm working for Lexmark now! :)

As far as the board.. I'm sure someone here can make one for ya for the right price.

However.. If you want possibly quicker results, check out the CANUSB or CAN232
http://www.canusb.com
http://www.can232.com

They can be had online for less than $150. I used the CAN232 personally and it works well. The CANUSB can support higher baud rates and is probably the better choice of the two.
