2014 Dodge Charger

Post by poop713 » 2017 Apr 27 12:15

I have my Arduino finally up and running, I can see all kinds of data thought the OBDII port. does anyone know if need to be connected to the can bus behind the radio to get the correct data from that or should I be good going through the can bus. I'm suspecting 23A is a steering wheel button I can filter it and press a button and I see some data show up, but on certain buttons a couple of strings of data show up. would I need to send those 2 strings for that one button's function.

The OBD2 port CAN data is going to be a filtered sub-set of information available on multiple internal networks. It's mainly designed for engine/drivetrain diagnostics and can be enabled for software updates via special commands.

The internal CAN networks ( like that on the back of the radio ) are typically more useful if you're interested in the internal operations of the vehicle and/or controlling things with injected codes. Most of the details on this site focus on these types of connections instead of the OBD2 port.

Hope this helps!

appreciate the info I'm reading through the forums a lot of good info. my only question is how can a device like the "zauto tazer" or the "Avidcode #carconnect" be able to plug into the OBDII port and be able to manipulate the system. I was bale to get some .bin files from the "avidcode" device and inside some of the files were many references to turn features off/on and even some I've never heard of before like "stealth mode" "horn song" "auto start on a schedule & when its below a certain temp outside" "auto close windows on rain, engine off, synchronize, A/C off" "home approach"
the list of features is amazing I would certain love to be able to do something like this all through the OBDII port.

Any chance you could share the .bin files from this device? Thanks

I have finally connected to the radio and have got a dump from that. there are way less ID's that the obdii port. should be easier to see whats going on.

I'm able to send commands now, basically have mapped alot of stuff in the car ac controls, blinkers, lights, radio stuff, door locks, door open/close, sport mode button, steering wheel buttons (left side) the right side seems to be on a different id so looking for that, shifter also in Manuel mode too all gears (I have the 5 speed V6), Mirrorrs driver/passenger, and more to come just getting started. Still need to order a OBDII splitter so I can hook up a couple other devices and see what codes they are sending.

Just need to figure out button mapping my own custom functions.

I was looking at the data off a 2013 Challenger, on the CAN B bus, wanting to see the VIN number come across for the radio. Does anyone know what the message ID and structure is for that?

Message id 3e0.

There will be three unique messages. The first byte is the part (00|01|02). The next 7 bytes will be the VIN parts.

Here's (most of) mine:
3E0 00 31 43 36 52 52 37 4B
3E0 01 4D 30 ?? ?? ?? ?? ??
3E0 02 ?? ?? ?? 00 00 00 00

If you're using cansniffer and filter out just that messageID, you should see what I'm talking about.

poop317,

I just received my carloop and have a 2014 Dodge Charger as well. If you have any information you can share I would greatly appreciate it.
My primary goals is a control the car lock and hopefully activate the remote start. Control over radio, climate, windows, etc is also hopeful.

Will be happy to share anything I am able to obtain as well.

FYI, your video under "managed to get the door locks" is offline.

Cool nice to know someone else interested in the same things my I'm doing! I've already got all those features marked down I'm trying to make a tutorial video on how to setup everything. That's seriously one thing lacking is how to get everything working. I've got most of those features working except the window up and down. lol but that isn't anything a little sniffing couldn't help.
